FORT WASHINGTON — Germantown Academy came into Dec. 15’s matchup with The Pennington School looking to improve on it’s 6-0 overall record. By night’s end, the Patriots did just that by defeating the visiting team in the first game of the Make-A-Wish Tournament, 57-52.
Leading the offense for the Patriots was guard Maddie Vizza ’20, who had 16 points, including two shots made from behind the three-point arc. Alexa Naessens ’18 chipped in 14 points and also hit two three-pointers. Jaye Haynes ’20 and Catherine Polisano ’18 each had 9 points.
Vizza and Naessens combined for 21 points in the first two quarters of play, helping guide the Patriots to a 36-26 halftime lead. Although GA never trailed in the game, Pennington made things close in the late stages of the game.
With only 21 seconds left to play, the Red Raiders found themselves down by only two points. However, free throws from Vizza and Polisano would help Germantown Academy outscore Pennington 4-1 down the stretch.
The Patriots are now 7-0 and host Archbishop Ryan High School on Dec. 16 at 8:00 p.m. in the Big Gym.
