PHILADELPHIA — For the second-straight game, Germantown Academy’s girl’s basketball team won big. On Jan. 12, the Patriots defeated Agnes Irwin School by 33 points and during the Jan. 14 matchup against Bonner and Prendergast High School in the Play By Play Tournament, GA won 63-38.
In January the Patriots are outscoring their opponents 306-252. One of the reasons that the offense has been clicking this month has been the play of guard Jaye Haynes ’20. Since the beginning of the year, Haynes is averaging just over 13 points a game and has only had one game with less than 10 points. Against Bonner and Prendergast High School, the sophomore had 15 points and was named Player of the Game.
In addition to her explosive game on offense, Haynes showed she was also dialed in defensively by registering five steals. While Haynes was the leading scorer, Catherine Polisano ’18 was hot on her tail. The senior finished the game with a season-high 13 points and added seven assists.
The Patriots opened the game by outscoring their opponent 25-11 and never looked back. Heading into the final frame Germantown Academy held a comfortable 51-34 lead.
Polisano and Haynes were the only players for Germantown Academy to top double figures, but a total of nine players were able to score for the Patriots. On the season, the Patriots have won 10 games by double digits.
Germantown Academy is now 14-4 overall and will look to improve to 4-0 in Inter-Ac League play with a win against Springside Chestnut Hill Academy on Jan. 16.
