LANCASTER — When the first day of the Eastern Interscholastic Swimming Championships concluded, Germantown Academy Head Coach Jeff Thompson said that he believed the boys team would have a good second day. “We’ve been away from home for about three days and the team is running on fumes,” Head Coach Jeff Thompson said. “We had a great morning session, which a lot of them had to have. I thought it was a great day.”
Zachary Kohm ’21 started off that great day by placing fifth in the 500 freestyle. Kohm swam 4:30.17 in the event, nearly three second faster than his preliminary time.
In the B Final of the 500, Gavin Loughlin ’20 placed fourth with a time of 4:44.61. Brian Bartle ’19 and Patrick O’Hara ’21 placed seventh and eighth respectively in the C Final.
“Brian Bartle and Patrick O’Hara swam out of their suits to get that swim tonight,” Thompson said. “To see them get a night swim at Easterns was really cool. Gavin Loughlin had an outstanding swim in the B Final and then Zach Kohm was on fire.”
Sean Keenan ’19 placed sixth in the 100 yard backstroke finals. Keenan registered a time of 51.31, only .07 second behind the fifth place finisher.
Jack Lafond ’19 finished first in the B Final for the 100 yard breaststroke with a time of 59.93. In the C Final of the event Kevin Hou ’19 took first with a 1:01.05.
GA closed out the night with a second place finish in the B Final of the 400 freestyle relay. The group of Walker Butler ’20, Keenan, Kohm and Jake Rabbiner ’19 swam a time of 3:13.54.
As a team, the boys finished 10th out of 28 teams with a total of 246 points. However, the team has no seniors on their roster, which provides a bright future.
“It’s been a storm brewing for quite a while,” Thompson said. “We’ve got an outstanding group of juniors that have led us this year, we’ve got some strong underclassmen and we have a nice group coming in next year. I’m really, really proud of the team.”
